The Hilux New Zealand Rural Games is an annual celebration of the country’s rural heritage. Designed as a weekend of entertainment for spectators and TV viewers, it will feature competitive sports such as wood chopping, sheep shearing, sheep dog trials, gumboot throwing and coal shovelling as well as a festival programme of live music and entertainment.
Staff, judges, commentators and competitors will be wearing polo shirts, caps and soft shell jackets from the Terrain range. The polo shirts are classic Kiwi black to emphasise the ten national championships and three trans-Tasman contests taking place at the Games including wood chopping, sheep dog trials, speed shearing, cherry stone spitting and Highland Games ‘heavy’ events.
Line 7 is also supporting the New Zealand Speed Fencing Championship along with Kinghitter Post Drivers in conjunction with FCANZ, the national fencing contractor’s association. The event, which takes place from 11am-12.30pm on Sunday 8 February, promises to be noisy, fast and furious as some of the best fencers in the country use a variety of tools and techniques against the clock hoping to be judged best on speed and quality.
Julie Green, Operations/Sales Manager at Line 7 said: “This first Games is set to become a regular, uniquely New Zealand event. Our iconic Kiwi brand has been providing quality all condition gear to the rural sector for over 50 years making it the perfect match. We’re excited to work alongside the great team of Games staff, competitors and volunteers on what will be an awesome couple of days.”
Hilux NZ Rural Games founder and trustee, Steve Hollander said: “Our long term aim is to preserve the legacy of traditional sports for future generations and ensure our national rural spirit is celebrated for many years to come. Line 7 fits nicely with that vision and is already part of that heritage. It’s great to have them on board and we’re loving the quality of the clothing.”
